14 days midrange lodges with hiking in Malawi
(Mulanje, Majete, Zomba, Liwonde, Cape Maclear)

DAY 1/4 - The top attractions of Malawi is arguably the Mulanje Mountains. So you should not miss the opportunity to spend some time hiking on the beautiful slopes of this mountain. Mount Mulanje with peaks up to 3000 meters is the highest mountain in Malawi.

The CCAP LIKHUBULA HOUSE is where we will start and end everything in the coming days.

DAY 5/6 - We head towards the Majete game reserve where the amazing creatures that roam the reserve include the sable, buffalo, leopard, black rhinoceros, lion and elephant. Majete Wildlife Reserve was declared a protected nature reserve in 1955.

It is a 2 hour drive on unpaved roads until we arrive at the THAWALE LODGE. Thawale is a family-friendly accommodation and a very accessible safari stop. For families, there is even a purpose-built chalet available, with two en-suite bedrooms, lounge and veranda.

DAY 7/8 - Head to the Zomba Plateau area for leisurely walks through lush forested areas, incredible panoramic views and great bird watching opportunities.

We spend the night in the quiet area of the ZOMBA FOREST LODGE. Via an unpaved bumpy and sometimes (in rain) slippery road we reach this oasis of peace. The laid-back vibe of the town, just a 25 minute drive away, makes it perfect for those looking to wander as here in Zomba there is plenty to see including visiting the botanical gardens and meandering the tree lined avenues dotted with old colonial houses, or visit the colorful market to name a few.

DAY 9/10 - Another highlight and only 1hr away. Liwonde: is a must-do for those who want a first-class safari away from the crowds. There are only 3 lodges in the park meaning you can get close to nature without the company of several other safari vehicles.

Of course we stay in the park, namely in the KUTSHIRE LODGE. The combination of this game reserve with this lodge offers arguably the best wilderness/safari experience in Malawi. With the Shire River, which is known for the largest concentration of hippos. You will also have the chance to see elephants, crocodiles, ospreys, bee-eaters, cranes and many other bird species.

Of course we sail around here for a few hours. In addition to boat trips on the Shire River, you can also go on safaris on foot, along lagoons, swamps and savanna landscapes.

DAY 10/13 - Towards Cape Maclear (aka Chembe), a small fishing village on Lake Nyasa (Lake Malawi). This is going to be a few rest days to finish off because frankly, doing as little as possible is the whole point of Cape Maclear. But there are activities, just in case you get bored.

We stay in the THUMBI VIEW LODGE but we will also sail on day 11, towards Domwe island. There are many fantastic water activities available during your stay on Domwe. Snorkeling or diving is a must as Lake Malawi is known as one of the best freshwater diving spots in the world. The lake has many beautiful colored fish called Cichlids.

During the day we settle here in accommodation consisting of a comfortable, spacious dining and bar area overlooking a beautiful natural beach. In the picturesque fishing village of Chintheche you can rent mountain bikes or book excursions to rubber plantations or Likoma Island, located in the Mozambique part of the lake but belonging to Malawi.

DAY 14 - Unfortunately this will be the last day in Malawi.

Lilongwe is the capital of this beautiful country where you will be taken as the last point ...
